Why Bob?

Why Bob? the question gets asked pretty regularly…..

Bob started out as…V-27633…sounds like an inmates number…that would not do at all, so we picked a name…

The short answer, he’s named for Bob Marley….

The long answer, he’s named after my nickname for Isis, which is Bob Marley, sometimes…don’t ask…

I shortened that to “Bob1” a few weekends back…and then Isis said “if we get a dog, we have to name him ‘Bob2’…” and I said “OK…!”

Notice the resemblance?

North Shore Animal League

We adopted Bob from North Shore Animal League.

We had been to another shelter and although I know they were doing a great job with limited funding…we don’t much like Pit Bulls…no offense to pit bulls or pit bull owners, just not our cup o tea.

First off we went into NSALA and found the place to be very clean…the dogs were not barking or freaking out…they seemed happy and content…the staff all wore a similarly colored blue shirt with the NSALA logo on it. All the staff we spoke with were very knowledgable and helpful and seemed to love what they were doing. We wandered around and looked at a few more grown up dogs and had a few brought into the very spacious play area…where potential adopters can meet there potential new pets in an open and clean area.

Then we went into a series of rooms with a sign on them that said “Little Ones.” Yup, you guessed it “Cute Overload!” There were super cute puppies and kittens everywhere and staff hovering and potential adopters and their families looking them over and kids gasping and yelling “mommy can we take him home?” “Please, Please…he’s sooo cute!”

We chatted with folks and looked at all the puppies…and took a few out of their cages and played with them and then we met….this little guy:

I looked at Isis and she looked back at me with a big smile and said “what about this one?”

I looked him over and played with him a bit and looked over at Isis and said “Let’s Do It!, He’s lovely!”

The adoption process was smooth, but took a long time, they were short staffed in the processing area and I’m sure they could use a few big donations to help! Hint Hint!….this gave me time to chat with the staff some more and the other people that were thinking of adopting…..everyone was in a stellar mood as was I…very excited and just happy to be around such positive energy!

We took “Bob” home that night and it’s been crazy lovely ever since…

I can’t thank NSALA enough for such a great experience!

What is Bob?

Bob is a dog. Of that we are sure…

What kind of dog? of that we are not so sure…

Bob has webbed feet:

So he must be a swimmer…

Bob has white speckled paws and big floppy ears…another clue…

The label on Bob’s cage at the shelter said simply: “Hound”…terribly helpful that was…but still, another clue…

Isis’ research suggests he might be a “BlueTick Hound”…famous raccoon hunters…

Phillippa’s brief review of Bob images suggests some “Spaniel”, English Springer possibly…based on paw speckles…

A helpful young man at the shelter, who was 17 and had already earned $30,000 flipping rebuilt PC’s on eBay, and was applying for MIT and CalTech, computer science major, said “he’s really big for 10 weeks, I think he’ll weigh 70 lbs. when he’s all grown up!”…the young man said this very confidently. So yet another clue, Bob will be quite large…

If you think you know what kinda dog Bob is, please leave a comment below…

Bob’s Health

It was reported to us when we adopted this little fella that he had a few health issues: (they took this pic)

you can tell by the blue in his eyes, a definite sign of: Doggy Pneumonia

and the strange curly hair usually is a sign of:  Kennel Cough (the constant coughing makes their hair curl)

Ich poo….but….bob was on the mend!

He just needed a little TLC from Isis! and poof back to normal…

actually it was this…

and this…

Errr…not the Mich Ultra!

Bob Eats

Bob was eating this…ehhh not so great! Below average…

We are slowly changing him to this…fairly natural and cheap too!

We did some research and the above dog food seems to be a good average quality choice.

We think we might try this from Canidae….next…considered an above average nutritional and quality choice…

We only want the best for Bob…
